Spa Waxing: How You Can Replicate The Results Without Paying Spa Prices
Jan 10th
Let’s face it, at least in the United States, if a woman has hair any place other than the accepted locations (e.g., head, eyebrows, eyelashes), she is probably looking for a way to get rid of it. A lot of these women — and you may be one of them — go to day spas or salons and pay on average anywhere from $8.00 for brows to $88 and up for a Brazilian.
Yes, the spa is a great place to get pampered and leave your skin feeling great. But is it really worth all the money you pay? Could there be a way to get the same results without paying so much? Thankfully, yes!
Although many of us are led to believe that going professional is the only way to see good results, the truth is that the money you spend is mainly on the “experience”. If all you care about is that the job is done well, you can do it yourself at home with a little effort and a lot less cost! You only need a few basic supplies to get started: the wax, a wax warmer, spatulas, wax removal strips and some time to practice.
A lot of spas also offer soothing creams and cleansers as part of the treatment, but don’t let these fool you. You can buy them yourself without paying the high mark-ups that the spas charge. When you’ve got together all the supplies you need, the actual waxing steps are pretty easy.
1. The day before you wax, exfoliate your skin. This removes dead skin cells and helps avoid ingrown hairs.
2. Just before waxing, to prevent the wax from sticking to your skin, apply some powder to the area.
3. Now follow the directions on your wax. Heat it up and test out the temperature before you apply it to your skin.
4. Now use your spatula to apply the wax in the direction of hair growth. Only work on small sections at a time – never apply all the wax and once – and make sure that the wax you apply is equal to the size of the removal strips you’ll be using.
5. Removing the wax means placing the strip over the area and firmly pressing it down, so it comes into contact with as much of the wax as possible. Now hold the skin very taught, and pull the strip off along the skin – be careful not to pull it upward – in the opposite direction to the way your hair grows.
6. If there’s some wax left on your skin then you can use a wax removing product to get rid of it, or simple olive oil.
To finish, apply a soothing lotion or cream, but avoid anything with alcohol or perfumes that might irritate your skin.
As with most techniques, waxing may require a little practice to get the results you’re looking for, but it’s really not that hard, and I think you’ll find the savings and convenience (no more appointments!) well worth the small effort.

Healthy Skin – The Top 5 Foods to Get It
Dec 20th
Your skin is the indicator of your health. You may love expensive creams and lotions, and they may help the appearance of your skin, but outside treatments can’t cure problems (e.g., acne, wrinkles, dryness) caused by nutritional deficiencies. Eating the right foods – and avoiding the wrong ones – is the safe and effective way to truly beautiful , healthy skin.
The following is a list of the top five foods that help maintain healthy skin and solve a number of already existing skin problems.
1. Green Tea: Antioxidants reduce inflammation and protect cell membranes, and green tea is full of them. Green tea can even help reduce the risk of skin cancer by reducing sunburn damage, and it’s full of polyphenols that eliminate cancer-causing free radicals. Those same polyphenols reactivate dying skin cells.
2. Salmon: Some of the best sources of omega-3 are flaxseed, walnuts, salmon and other fatty fish. Essential fatty acids such as omega-3 are the key for healthy skin. These fatty acids help protect cell membranes from harmful substances by allowing nutrients in and waste products out. They also reduce inflammatory agents that cab cause skin damage.
Unfortunately most Americans do not consume enough of these fatty acids. The recommended ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids is 1:1 but the typical ratio in an American diet is closer to 20:1.
3. Blueberries: Everywhere you look these days, there seems to be news about blueberries… and there’s a reason. Many experts consider them to be the best source of antioxidants. These antioxidants along with the phytochemicals in blueberries neutralize the free radicals which cause skin damage. Less skin damage means younger looking skin.
4. Carrots: A lack of vitamin A can lead to dry skin so why not eat carrots? They are full of vitamin A which helps maintain your skin cells. Carrots are also chock full of antioxidants which help to protect the cell membranes and reduce inflammation.
5. Water: Water is also essential to young, healthy-looking skin so drink plenty of it! Water in coffee, tea and other caffeinated beverages does not count! Pure, clean water rejuvenates your skin’s cells by hydrating them and eliminating toxins.
Eating healthy is essential to maintain the health of your skin. Eating healthy includes eating the proper foods as well as avoiding the wrong ones. For healthy-looking skin it is recommended to avoid white flour, sugar and saturated fats. Fried foods are not good for you in any way, but as far as your skin is concerned they are especially bad as they can lead to acne and other unsightly skin conditions by trapping bacteria and oil beneath your skin.
