Ways To Submit Online Applications For EBT Food Stamps

With the economy being where it is right now, more households all over the country are finding it to be a challenge just trying to make ends meet. For 35 years, the food stamp program has existed to allow the most underprivileged households to purchase their food, using food stamps they issued, at their local grocery stores.
These days though, the food stamps program now goes by the name of SNAP, or Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. And instead of using physical food stamps to make food purchases, members now use an EBT card, or Electronic Benefits Transfer card. This is certainly a step forward in simplifying the program and making it more accessible to those who qualify for it.
While the option still exists to apply by visiting your local welfare office in picking up an application form, one can now also apply online. However, not all states have this capability right now, so you will want to verify if you live in a state that has it. Right now, only 25 states allow submissions to be sent online. There are also restrictions at the county level in online applications submitted online from New York, Texas, Indiana and California, something you will also want to look into if you live in any one of these states.
Once you have determined if your state allows online applications for food stamps, just fill up the information online through your county’s local office website. After you have submitted your application, you will then be sent a letter that will direct you to submit documents on behalf of everyone who will be covered in your household. This can include IDs for everyone who will be covered under the program in your household, social security numbers, rent receipts and pay stubs. Bring all the documents to the interview, and in case you aren’t able to bring everything, go to the interview anyway, and the case worker will at least be able to reschedule when the documents can be brought.
Take note that a review of the initial application can take at least 30 days before you will be contacted for an interview. After the interview, if you case worker approves your eligibility, you will be able to receive benefits usually within 5 days. You will be issued your EBT card, but you will need to activate it first. Upon receiving the card, you should note that there will not be any benefits loaded yet, and you will need to wait out that 5 day period.
