Bowling Green played Boise State tough on their home field this weekend–at least for one quarter. Things looked good for the host Falcons at the end of the first quarter, as they’d held the #6 ranked Broncos scoreless and were right in the thick of things in a scoreless game. It was all downhill from that point for Bowling Green, as Boise State exploded for 29 unanswered second quarter points. The Broncos would eventually win 49-14.

The Broncos easily covered as -16 road favorites. The 63 combined points went OVER the posted total of 51. Boise State needed four plays or less on their first six scoring drives, and amassed a season high 529 yards of total offense. Their defense also forced the Falcons into three costly turnovers.

Boise State coach Chris Petersen had insisted on more quick strike scoring drives in the week before the Bowling Green game. They most definitely delivered, and the coach commented to their performance after the contest:

“On offense, that’s always the name of the game. It makes it a lot easier when you don’t have those 15- and 17-play drives.”

Broncos quarterback Kellen Moore threw 17 completions in 21 pass attempts for a total of 247 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. 195 of his total yards came during the 2nd quarter onslaught, where he completed 8 consecutive passes during one stretch. After the game, Moore indicated that his team wasnt resting on their impressive season to date performance:

“There’s a lot of football to go and a lot of things to work on.

Coach Petersen concurred with his quarterbacks mindset:

“These guys are a fairly mature bunch and if not, we have a staff of mature coaches to keep them focused.

Bowling Green head coach Dave Clawson sounded somewhat in awe of the Broncos ability to score so quickly:

“That’s what they do. When they have 500 yards of offense, it will always be 10 to 12 plays where half their offense came from.”

The Broncos looked sharp all around on offense despite the absence of second leading rusher DJ Harper. Harper is likely out for the year after a knee injury.

Bowling Green will take a step down in class of opposition next weekend as they host the Ohio Bobcats. Theyll play on the road the next two weeks, traveling to Kent State and Ball State. Boise will return home for a game against FCS opponent UC Davis next Saturday. Theyll play on the road at Tulsa the following weekend, before enjoying a bye week. Theyll be back in action on October 25 as they make the long trip to play the University of Hawaii.

Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Jake Delhomme struggled on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and was fortunate that his running backs bailed him out. Delhomme threw for only 65 yards with two interceptions, but D’Angelo Williams (152 yards) and Jonathan Stewart (110 yards) kept the chains moving as the Panthers won their second straight game defeating the Bucs 28-21. Tampa Bay has now lost ten straight dating back to last season and are 0-6 for the first time since’85. The fact that they ended up starting that year 0-9 on their way to a 1-15 record doesn’t bode well for the rest of the season. Carolina improved to 2-3 with the victory.

NFL sports bettors were faced with a choice between two teams with dismal ATS records in this game, and those who had the guts to take a 1-3 team as a -3 road favorite were rewarded with the cover. It was Carolina’s first NFL pointspread cover of the season and left them with a 1-4 record against the number. Tampa Bay has covered one of their six games this year. The 49 points scored went OVER the total of 40′.

Delhomme attempted only seven passes in the second half, but the way Williams and Stewart were running there was no reason to put the ball in the air. Williams said that even though Tampa Bay knew what was coming they couldn’t stop the Panthers’ running game:

“I’m sure everybody in the stadium knew what we were going to do. There were times they had nine in the box and we were still getting 7 or 8 yards.”

There’s been little impatience locally with Bucs’ rookie head coach Raheem Morris, but his weekly habit of explaining the obvious to rationalize yet another loss is starting to wear thin:

“We got overpowered at the end, and really throughout the game.”

Carolina safety Dante Wesley was ejected after clobbering Bucs’ return man Clifton Smith after a fair catch call. After the game, Wesley gave this defense for his actions:

“I was just trying to make a play. You can check my record. I’ve never really tried to hurt anybody. I’ve never tried to take a cheap shot on anybody.”

Wesley could face a possible fine or suspension from the NFL but, in all fairness, it did appear to be a momentary mental lapse as he was trying to make a big play and not a deliberate attempt to injure Smith.

Tampa’s schedule has the look of them going from ‘the frying pan into the fire’ as they host the New England Patriots next Sunday-fresh off of their 57 point drubbing of Tennessee. The Bucs are +14 home underdogs to the Patriots with the total set at 45. They’ll get a week off after that contest and return to action on November 8 as they host the Green Bay Packers. Carolina has an easier draw, hosting the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.

Tony Romo passed for a NFL career best 353 yards and threw three touchdown passes as the Dallas Cowboys got their 2009 season off to a good start with a 34-21 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Raheem Morris went down in defeat in his debut as Bucs head coach.

The Cowboys easily covered the pointspread as -4 road favorites, and improved to 16-12 over the last three years when laying points. Tampa Bay dropped to 17-17 over the same timeframe as an underdog. The 55 combined points went OVER the posted total of 39. Dallas has gone OVER in 20 of their last 34 lined games.

After the game Roy Williams, who will be counted on to take up the slack from the loss of T.O., couldnt resist a wisecrack at his former teammates expense:

“Career-high passing yards? Without T.O? “No, it’s good. It’s good for him. It’s good for this team. It was a team effort. Everybody contributed.”

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said he wasnt surprised at the the performance of his receiving corps:

“They are playmakers, and we knew that going in. But until you do it, the naysayers are going to say: ‘Hey. You don’t have this or that.’ But I think we do.”

Romo, meanwhile, preferred to focus on the victory:

“You don’t think about yards. You’re not judged off of yards. You’re judged off of winning and losing at this position.”

Raheem Morris talked about taking the loss in his NFL coaching debut:

“Obviously, we’re disappointed. But there were a lot of good things on offense.”

Perhaps the brightest silver lining in the dark cloud of the loss was the performance of Cadillac Williams. Williams appeared fully recovered from serious knee surgery and rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Bucs cornerback Ronde Barber suggested that the final score didn’t convey that his team played well:

“We had our chances. The final score is definitely not indicative of how good we played at times. Those big plays absolutely destroy you football team.

The Cowboys will return home for their next game hosting the New York Giants. Theyll remain at home the following week as they welcome the Carolina Panthers to Texas. The Bucs will head to upstate New York to face T.O and his new team, the Buffalo Bills.

Though his scoring records have been obliterated by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, former Boston Bruins/New York Rangers center Phil Esposito is still regarded by hockey cognoscenti as one of the greatest offensive players in the history of the game. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, as is his brother Tony Esposito who was a standout goaltender for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Esposito was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and his prodigious hockey talent quickly became apparent. He was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as a teenager, and made his NHL debut in’64. In’67, Esposito was traded to the Boston Bruins along with Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield. Within a few years Hodge and Stanfield blossomed into All Stars, while Esposito quickly took his place alongside his former teammate Hull as the best scorer in the league.

It wasnt long before Esposito started to destroy long standing NHL records. In’69, he became the first NHL player to top the 100 point mark (combined goals and assists) for the season”he obliterated the record with 126 points, which would be the first of six times that hed top the century mark. He topped 100 points in five straight seasons between’71 and’75, missing a sixth straight season by a single point with 99 in’70. Bruins fans were fond of displaying car bumper stickers that read Jesus Saves; Esposito scores on the rebound.

In the’70-71 season, Esposito scored 76 goals to smash the NHL’s single season scoring record. That record stood for over a decade until Wayne Gretzky scored 79 for the Edmonton Oilers in’81-82. Gretzky also broke Espositos single season points record of 154. Perhaps the most amazing element of Espositos game was the frequency with which he put the puck on net”Espo had 550 shots on goal in’70-71. No one has since come close”in fact, just last Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals became the first player to come within 100 shots of Espositos mark.

In’75, Esposito was traded with Brad Park to the New York Rangers for Brad Park, Joe Zanussi and Jean Ratelle. By that point, he had been slowed considerably by knee injuries but his experience, intelligence for the game and nose for the puck made him a valuable component of the Broadway Blueshirts offense and he was named team captain. Until the very end of his career, he remained a dangerous scoring threat that all opposing teams were forced to reckon with.

After his retirement in’75, he remained active in hockey. He served as the GM of the Rangers before helping secure an expansion team for Tampa, Florida in’92. Esposito served as the President and GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning until’98. After stepping away from formal duties, he’s remained a very visible member of the hockey media. He hosts a daily hockey radio show on XM Radio, and has even done some acting appearing in a recurring role as a fire chief on the TV series Rescue Me.

Cyclo tourism is an avocation that merges journeying and cyclism and is experienced by the cyclo-tourist. The activity consists of discovering new sites, countrysides and locations or to visit lands and countries using the bike as a means of transportation. Cyclo tourism is not to be disconcerted with long way sporting racing events such as the Tour de France, it is first and above all a leisure activity, the extra exercise is an added bonus but not the main and only objective of cyclo-tourism. It is however a form of eco tourism.

Forms of cyclo tourism

Cyclo tourism can be characterized by the distance traveled, the duration of the trip and the nature of the equipment used.

The short tour consists of a single or a half day ride. It doesn’t demand any specialized equipment apart from the regular tire repair kit, water bottle and maybe a light snack.

The long excursion can be as long as a few hundred kilometers ride with camping equipment, a more spacious bicycle mending kit and particular clothing and garments to face the contingency of changing meteorological conditions. This way a cyclo tourist can circumvent entire countries, pass over borders or travel between distant towns. Some cycle tourists even go as far as traveling the world and passage multifold continents by planning ahead with great accuracy for any feasible contingencies and scenarios.

In France and continental Europe a network of roads dedicated to cyclist tourist called “veloroute” is under construction to facilitate the movement of cyclists across Europe. These paths are especially designed to be far away from super highways and high traffic road ways while using common touristic itineraries giving cyclo tourists access to conventional touristic attractiveness such as camping grounds, museums, restaurants and accommodations. The parsimonious advantages to regional economies help to finance and develop the “veloroute”.
History

Cyclo tourism was pioneered by Paul Vivie in France in the late 1890′s, the first excursions were Lyon-Nice and were executed in less than 24 hours. He is the originator of the 7 commandments of Velocio (cyclo tourism):

- Take rare and short breaks
- Have numerous light and frequent meals, eat before being hungry and drink before being thirsty
- Never push until unusual exhaustion leads to lack of sleep and appetite
- Cover yourself before being too cold and uncover yourself before being too hot
- During excursion, limit or eliminate tobacco and alcohol consumption

Equipment

The bicycle is the most consequential element of the cyclist tourist. It must be cozy and vigorous to adjust the extra weight required on long excursions. The seat is peculiarly significant because if not suited to long tours it will cause blisters, bruising and pain on long journeys. The frame is usually made of high class steel from reputable establishments such as Reynolds, Vitus or Colombus. Mud flaps must wide and vigorous, ball bearings must be of high grade, saddle bags must be spacious and are often made of high grade leather. Most long excursion bicycles are actually usually custom made to withstand the special and palliative conditions and circumstances that cyclo tourism can bring. Lighting should be complete with head lamp and break lights, tires must be of high quality and made for both street and moderate off road conditions.

Can you believe that about a third of the body’s cells are expiring at any given time and each cell has to finally be replaced? And there are so various chemicals and toxins in the globe today that our bodies have to work even harder.

Accumulated toxins as well as ordinary dirt and debris support bacterias and parasites to flourish. They can also drop energy levels by overburdening common bodily functions. This toxin buildup may not make any one specific disease but can make a dog more susceptible to infectious illnesses and inflammation.

Luckily there are ways we can aid our pets. The first is workout, the second is a day of fasting and the third is grooming, which is what we are going to focus on here.

You may wonder why we have to clean up our dogs at all. Wolves in the wildlife never get bathed and they appear to do just fine without all of that pampering. The basic reason we have to wash our pets is because they were bred to have abnormally long, curly or fine hair which gets absolutely dirty and matted. Certainly canines will try to self groom with their tongues and paws but with their long coats, they normally can’t do the job alone. Nor should they. Dirt and debris left in the coat is dangerous for two reasons.

1. Your canines will try to wash their fur by licking it. So they will swallow things like lint, flakes of paint, debris from automobiles and even asbestos fibers all of which can lead to many internal problems.

2. These same toxins in the fur can cause skin irritations which leads to mangy skin.

Here are a few of solutions:

1. Clean up your canine with an all natural shampoo every week or every month depending on the breed of dog you have and your lifestyle.

2. Brush your canine daily. Unlike humans who absorb most environmental allergens through their noses and mouths, dogs tend to absorb allergens through the skin. Weekly cleaning can prevent itchiness, washing allergens away before they get a chance to permeate the skin. Also, frequent brushing encourages skin health by bringing excretions from oil glands onto the skin. It also helps to erase mattes from building up.

3. Give your canine a detoxifier to help remove toxins more quickly. Healthy Skin Shiny Coat is an herbal tonic that you give to your canine by mouth. It helps to reroute the toxins to the kidneys and viscera so the skin will be healthier.
