Healthy Tips for Travellers Going to Thailand
When we visit a new destination abroad, it is normal that we would want to experience everything there is that the country has to offer - and getting sick is surely not one of them. Hence, to make the most of your journey to exotic attractions in Bangkok without bringing home a runny nose, here are a few tips to remember:
Before Boarding the Airplane
Your preparation for a healthy trip starts even before you can step foot on the passenger plane. So, do not forget to have the following ready:
- Medical Check-Up - This one is a must for you and everybody else who is coming with you to know if the group is fit enough to take such a journey.
- Travel Insurance - To better prepare for any emergencies overseas, make sure to organise a policy that provides appropriate coverage.
- First-Aid Kit - Because illnesses can strike any time without warning, bring along medications for basic illnesses and your own prescriptions with you. However, some medicines require documents for you to bring them on international flights.
Once You Get to Your Destination
After the initial preparation, you should still be vigilant about not getting yourself or anybody in your travel party sick. Here are some of the things that you have to be wary of in places like Thailand.
- Water - In some public areas, you might not be able to come across safe drinking water; thus, it is best if you have bottled water or water-purifying tablets in your backpack at all times.
- Food - Another possible source of illnesses are improperly cooked edibles so, watch out for these, too. However, if you really cannot say no to that sumptuous krapho pla, lessen the risk by asking a local vendor to serve the dish while it is hot.
- Dirty Hands - Because there are tons of street food that will require you to use your hands while strolling through the pavements of Bangkok, you need to bring a sanitiser wherever you go.
- Insect Bites - Tropical countries are among the places on the globe where the population of mosquitoes always seem to subsist. So, to keep them at bay (literally), wear socks, long pants, and long-sleeve shirts whenever you are outdoors.
- Unsafe sex - If you are a single man on the prowl for a loving and beautiful Thai wife (and you have luckily found her), you need to have a box of rubber handy to protect you from STDs and unwanted pregnancies. When you are in the heat of the moment, it is best to keep your head (no pun intended) in the game at all times.
Through these pieces of wisdom, we hope that you can steer clear from any serious diseases and ailments while spending the holidays in oriental holiday destinations like Thailand.
